HOLY WEEK & THE SACRED TRIDUUM

HOLY WEEK AND THE SACRED TRIDUUM

Holy Week is the final and most sacred week of the Christian liturgical year, beginning with Palm Sunday and culminating in the celebration of Easter Sunday. It invites us to journey with Jesus through his passion, death, and resurrection. At the heart of Holy Week is the Sacred Triduum—the “Three Holy Days”—which begins at sundown on Holy Thursday, continues through Good Friday and Holy Saturday, and concludes with the Easter Vigil. These days commemorate the central mysteries of our faith:

Holy Thursday recalls the Last Supper, when Jesus gave us the gift of the Eucharist and the commandment to love through humble service.

Good Friday is the solemn remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death on the cross, a day of deep reflection and reverence. Holy Saturday is a day of quiet waiting and anticipation, leading into the joyful celebration of Christ’s resurrection at the Easter Vigil. Together, Holy Week and the Triduum invite us to enter more deeply into the mystery of God’s saving love through Christ.

Yours in Christ,

The Very Revd Moses Thabethe
